The Last Mountain
A fight for our future
In the valleys of Appalachia, a battle is being fought over a mountain. It is a battle with severe consequences that could affect every person on the planet, regardless of social status, economic background or geography. The mining and burning of coal is at the epicenter of The Last Mountain, the story of the struggle to balance energy needs and short-term profits with environmental and health concerns.
Nowhere are those concerns greater than in Coal River Valley, West Virginia, where a small but passionate group of ordinary citizens is trying to stop Big Coal corporations from blasting away the tops of their mountains. After years of enduring floods, illness, and the staccato reverberation of dynamite blasts, the citizens of Coal River Valley join forces with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to stop the destruction and save their last mountain.
