To Kill a Tiger
In a small village in Jharkhand, India, Ranjit, a humble farmer, wakes up to find that his 13-year-old daughter, “Kiran,” has not returned home from a family wedding. Hours later, she stumbles back—after being abducted and sexually assaulted by three men. Ranjit and his wife report the crime to the police, and the perpetrators are arrested.
But the family’s relief is short-lived. Villagers and community leaders launch a relentless campaign urging Ranjit to drop the charges and settle the matter locally. Instead, empowered by Kiran’s courage, Ranjit makes a rare and radical decision: he chooses to pursue justice through the courts. In a country where a sexual assault is reported every 20 minutes and conviction rates are below 30%, his choice to support his daughter is virtually unheard of.
A cinematic David and Goliath story unfolds as Ranjit and his family stand firm against crushing pressure. Despite social ostracization, death threats, and economic hardship, they refuse to capitulate. Their bravery sparks a broader reckoning that will reverberate for years to come.
